Job Description: Civil Project Engineer


Our client has an immediate opening for a Civil Project Engineer at their office in West Bloomfield, MI. They are seeking an experienced, energetic, and personable engineer looking to grow their career in civil engineering.


  • Site Civil Design: Develop stormwater, sanitary, water main, pavement, and grading designs for site and subdivision plans.
  • Water Main and Sewer Design: Plan and execute water main and sewer infrastructure projects.
  • Plan Production: Create site civil plans, grading plans, Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control (SESC) plans, standard details, and As-built plans.
  • Permitting: Coordinate with permitting agencies and handle the permitting process.
  • Project Specifications: Write, review, and approve project specifications.
  • Team Oversight: Provide direction and oversight to junior project engineers.
  • Cost Estimation and Documentation: Prepare cost estimates, manage bid letting, and create contracting documents.
  • Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Plans: Develop and oversee MOT plans.
  • RFI Coordination and Drawing Review: Handle Requests for Information (RFIs) and review shop drawings.
  • Meetings and Documentation: Attend progress meetings, prepare meeting minutes, and contribute to proposal preparation.
  • Document Creation: Utilize Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for various project documentation tasks.


  • Professional Credentials: Must be a Registered Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Experience: 5+ years of civil engineering experience in both private and public sectors.
  • Educational Background: BS and/or MS in Civil Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient in AutoCAD and Civil 3D for civil design work.
  • Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Adaptability: Ability to apply engineering fundamentals to dynamic real-world conditions and adjust schedules to meet deadlines and client needs.
  • Interdisciplinary Experience: Experience with geotechnical, structural, and hydraulic engineering projects is a plus.
  • Collaborative Skills: Proven ability to collaborate and maintain relationships across multiple offices.
  • Legal and Driving Requirements: Must have legal authorization to work in the United States and an insurable driving record.
