Geotechnical Department Manager
Location: Jackson, MS
A highly respected, employee-owned, national engineering consulting firm is seeking a Geotechnical Department Manager to lead and grow its geotechnical practice in Jackson, MS.
This role offers the opportunity to manage technical staff, oversee project delivery, drive business growth, and directly influence departmental performance within a collaborative, growth-oriented organization.
Key Responsibilities
• Oversee all ongoing geotechnical projects to ensure quality, schedule, safety, and client satisfaction
• Lead proposal development and cost estimating to ensure proper scoping, staffing, and profitability
• Manage daily department operations including staff development, performance management, safety oversight, and quality control
• Partner with office leadership on business development, client relationship management, and strategic growth initiatives
• Develop and execute departmental business plans aligned with revenue, utilization, billing, and profitability goals
• Support recruiting, onboarding, and workforce planning
• Identify project risks and ensure compliance with corporate risk management practices
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Geology, or related technical discipline
• Minimum 10 years of professional experience in geotechnical or related consulting services
• Master’s degree or PhD preferred
• Professional licensure or certification strongly preferred
• Proven experience managing staff, projects, and client relationships
• Demonstrated business development and leadership capability
