Potential Career Path: This position is currently structured as a senior non-managerial/principal-level role, with the potential to be reclassified as a Managing Principal depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications and leadership experience.

About the Opportunity

A well-established, employee-owned, multi-disciplinary engineering firm is seeking a Principal Geotechnical / Construction Materials Testing Engineer to support its growing geotechnical engineering and materials testing/inspection practice in the Lehigh Valley region.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced geotechnical engineering professional who enjoys technical leadership, project involvement, mentoring junior staff, and supporting both public and private sector clients. The ideal candidate will bring strong consulting experience, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to contribute to technical review, client service, and continued growth in the local market.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting geotechnical engineering and construction materials testing/inspection projects for public and private sector clients
  • Preparing and reviewing geotechnical engineering reports, calculations, recommendations, and related technical documents
  • Providing technical guidance and support to field staff and junior engineers
  • Reviewing construction inspection daily field reports and related documentation
  • Performing occasional project site visits related to active projects
  • Interpreting engineering plans, construction documents, and project specifications
  • Supporting quality control and senior technical review of geotechnical reports prepared by staff engineers
  • Mentoring junior staff and contributing to their technical development
  • Assisting with client relationships, project coordination, and business development efforts as appropriate

Required Qualifications

  • Local to the Lehigh Valley, PA or Northern New Jersey region, or willing to relocate
  • Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geological Engineering, or a similar ABET-accredited engineering discipline
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in the geotechnical engineering consulting industry
  • Professional Engineer license in Pennsylvania, or ability to obtain Pennsylvania licensure through reciprocity within 3 months of hire
  • Strong technical background in geotechnical engineering and/or construction materials testing
  • Willingness and ability to mentor junior engineering and technical staff
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Local Pennsylvania or Northern New Jersey market experience
  • Established local industry relationships and client connections
  • Experience with business development, client management, proposals, or expanding service opportunities
  • Familiarity with geotechnical engineering software such as tablogs/Tablabs, L-Pile, SLIDE, Settle3D, MSEW, or similar programs
  • Experience performing senior-level review of geotechnical reports prepared by staff engineers
  • Ability to interpret engineering and construction plans, specifications, and related technical documents
