Senior Geotechnical Engineer (Project Manager)
Location: Spokane, WA or Boise, ID

Overview
As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will play a key role in managing exciting and technically challenging projects across infrastructure, utilities, and energy markets. Project types may include transportation improvements, substations, transmission lines, and renewable energy development.

This role includes planning and overseeing field programs, conducting technical briefings with field staff, and leading project management responsibilities including budgeting and client communications. You will also perform and oversee engineering analyses, develop technical reports, conduct occasional site visits, and oversee field explorations and construction observations. As a senior engineer, you will mentor and support the growth of junior staff.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Lead project management tasks including scope and budget development, client billing, contract review, proposal development, and deliverable quality control. Partner with senior leadership to ensure effective execution across multiple projects.
  • Serve as a technical resource for clients and internal teams, providing guidance and expertise to solve complex challenges.
  • Develop complete and accurate field reports, figures, tables, and other technical documentation with minimal revisions required.
  • Review work products from junior and mid-level staff (field reports, calculations, analyses, etc.) and provide coaching and mentorship on technical skills and consulting best practices.
  • Support business development through relationship building, client outreach, and participation in relevant professional associations and events.
  • Lead and/or coordinate field exploration programs and construction-phase services, ensuring work is performed according to project plans, specifications, and safety requirements.
  • Complete engineering analyses and calculations, including development of conceptual models (e.g., numerical modeling, hydraulic/hydrologic modeling).
  • Perform complex spatial analyses (e.g., contouring, clipping, buffering).
  • Develop GIS-related project deliverables such as maps and database organization.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s degree in Geotechnical or Geological Engineering strongly preferred
  • 6+ years of relevant geotechnical experience required
  • 4+ years of project management experience
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Ability to participate in site visits that may include lifting up to ~40 lbs and navigating uneven/steep terrain in varying weather conditions
  • Willingness to travel locally and occasionally for project needs, client support, and team collaboration

Physical Requirements / Work Environment
  • Candidates may be subject to background and reference checks
  • Ability to perform occasional heavy work, including exerting up to ~50 lbs of force
  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods (prolonged sitting and monitor use)
  • Ability to travel for short-term and longer-term assignments as needed
  • Commitment to safe work practices, including identifying hazards, participating in safety briefings, using appropriate PPE, and completing required safety training prior to fieldwork
