Senior Staff Geologist / Environmental Scientist
Location: Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
A highly respected, employee-owned, national consulting firm is seeking a Senior Staff Geologist / Environmental Scientist to support complex environmental and geologic projects in the Pittsburgh market. This role offers a balanced mix of fieldwork, technical analysis, client interaction, and project leadership within a collaborative, growth-focused environment.
The position is ideal for a mid to senior level environmental professional who enjoys technical problem solving, project execution, and mentoring junior staff.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct Environmental Site Assessments and Site Characterization
- Perform environmental site characterization and remediation support activities
- Evaluate and interpret soil, groundwater, bedrock, and vapor data
- Prepare subsurface maps, cross sections, and technical figures
- Execute field investigations including drilling oversight, sampling, and aquifer evaluations
- Apply knowledge of state land recycling and storage tank regulatory programs
- Manage clean fill evaluations and compliance with fill management policies
- Prepare technical plans, reports, and regulatory documentation
- Direct and supervise field staff during sampling and testing activities
- Review laboratory and field data and compile findings into written reports
- Support proposal development and quality control review of proposals
- Participate in client meetings and technical discussions
- Collaborate with senior staff on complex projects and lead medium complexity projects
- Promote safety, quality, and compliance on all project activities
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or related discipline
- Minimum of 5 years of relevant environmental or geologic consulting experience
- Master’s degree preferred
- Professional certification or licensure in field of expertise required or in progress
- Strong experience with environmental site assessments and regulatory compliance
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities effectively
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
